If you are looking for the opportunity to make real changes in your life, you have found the right approach because science has shown that cognitive behaviour therapy forms the three pillars of change:
IT WORKS,
IT WORKS QUICKLY
ITS EFFECTS LAST.
Along with cognitive behaviour therapy, we will use another important tool to maximize the changes you are committed to making. Psychologists know that
ACCOMPLISHMENTS ONLY REALLY MATERIALIZE WHEN THEY ARE MEASURED.
Together we will measure the changes you are experiencing using the same questionnaires used in research studies in order for you to see the changes you are making.
Since you are looking for someone to help you attain
REAL RESULTS
, I would like to share my accomplishments as a psychologist with you. When deciding on who is best-suited to help you, I would strongly recommend that you ask for
REAL RESULTS.
Clients who have worked with me have experienced a greater quality of life. I ask my clients to measure their success using questionnaires used in research. According to their own self-ratings, their presenting problem has:
DECREASED BY UP TO
75%
when the degree of interference is measured;
DECREASED BY UP TO
88%
in terms of the frequency of symptoms and;
DECREASED BY UP TO
89%
in the intensity of their symptoms.
In summary, what was once a problem no longer interferes in their life and any symptoms that re-emerge are temporary and minimal.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
Cognitive behavioural therapy is not just ‘talk therapy’. Although expressing oneself is important during therapy, insight is not enough to change. We all need proven and effective tools to help us deal with life’s challenges. Through a collaborative relationship, this therapy teaches you scientific principles and techniques to empower you to transform your life and achieve real results.
If you are looking for the opportunity to make real changes in your life, you have found the right approach because cognitive behaviour therapy forms the three pillars of change:
IT WORKS
,
IT WORKS QUICKLY
and its
EFFECTS LAST
!
CBT WORKS: THE FIRST PILLAR OF CHANGE
Cognitive behaviour therapy is a powerful therapy that can help you to transform your life. Of all psychotherapies, research studies have demonstrated time and time again that cognitive behaviour therapy is the most effective psychotherapy that can reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. This is the first important point to understand about this therapy. In a review of 332 studies with just under 10,000 individuals
1
, those individuals receiving cognitive behaviour therapy had a superior outcome to those not receiving cognitive behaviour therapy by the following percentage:
Depression in adults: 52-79%
Depression in adolescents: 67-87%
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD): 75-90%
Panic Disorder: 52-90%
Social Phobia: 82%
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD): 59-90%
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): 62-96%
Anger Management: 76%
Bulimia Nervosa: 89-91%
Schizophrenia: 71-93%
So for example, 75-90% of individuals who received cognitive behaviour therapy for generalized anxiety disorder in the above studies achieved better results than those individuals not participating in this therapy.
CBT WORKS QUICKLY: THE SECOND PILLAR OF CHANGE
There is convincing evidence that much of the changes that people experience in cognitive behavioural therapy for common life problems, such as anxiety and depression, occurs early in treatment
2
. In one research study of cognitive behaviour therapy, 90% of the symptoms of clinical depression decreased in the first six weeks of treatment
3
. Although there is no exact formula, a general ‘rule of thumb’ is that significant gains should be achieved after approximately ten sessions of cognitive behaviour therapy. In short, with cognitive behaviour therapy gains will be achieved in a reasonable amount of time and you will not spend years in therapy.
THE EFFECTS OF CBT LAST: THE THIRD PILLAR OF CHANGE
The last important point worth knowing about CBT is that the reduction in symptoms that people experience can last for years. Thus, the gains that are attained, such as a decrease in the symptoms of an anxiety disorder or major depression as examples, will tend to be long-term rather than just short-term. Reviews of 141 research studies
1,4,5
have shown that people can maintain the gains they have achieved from cognitive behavioural therapy for at least 6-24 months. In one very long-term study with generalized anxiety disorder
6
, the improvements in symptoms were maintained for up to 10 years after therapy. Furthermore, a review of 48 studies
7
with just under 3000 people comparing cognitive behaviour therapy for major depression against medication demonstrated that the relapse rate is only 30% for CBT but 60% for those receiving medication without CBT when symptoms are measure one year later. A more recent study
8
has confirmed that the relapse rate for CBT is 31% but can reach 76% when only medication is used. This powerful effect could be due to the finding that cognitive behaviour therapy can change the brain circuits involved in regulating negative emotions such as depression, as well as anxiety, a finding demonstrated by brain imaging research
9
.
In summary,
CBT WORKS
,
IT WORKS QUICKLY
and the
EFFECTS LAST!
