How will therapy for bipolar disorder help me?

I think I may have bipolar disorder. How do I find out?

Bipolar Disorder Therapy

If you are looking for an effective psychological bipolar disorder treatment that has received scientific support, a recent program, “The Life Goals Program” ( Sajatovic et al., 2009) has been shown to be effective in helping in the treatment of bipolar disorder.

How can bipolar disorder therapy help overcome bipolar disorder?

People who have participated in this program have improved in the following ways:

  • They have experienced a decrease in the length of both depressed and manic episodes (Bauer et al., 2006; Simon et al., 2006).
  • When measured throughout a two-year follow-up period, the severity of symptoms in the mania phase is lower when compared to treatment as usual (Simon et al., 2006).
  • People who have participated in this type of program have experienced a greater quality of life at work and at home (Bauer et al., 2006).

Being a psychologist specialized in cognitive behavioural therapy for bipolar disorder I can help you to overcome bipolar disorder. If you are interested, find out how my success with bipolar disorder therapy compares to these published research studies.

What Is Bipolar Disorder? Do I Need Bipolar Disorder Treatment?

In the past, bipolar disorder was called manic depression or manic-depressive disorder. In order to meet the diagnosis for bipolar disorder, you must have experienced one or more manic episodes, as well as at least one major depressive episode. A manic episode is defined as a period of abnormally and persistent elevated, expansive or irritable that lasts at least one week. During this period, you may have experienced the following symptoms:
  • An inflated sense of self or grandiosity.
  • A decreased need to sleep i.e. you could stay up for days and not require any sleep.
  • More talkative than usual or feeling pressured to keep talking.
  • Racing thoughts that do not stop.
  • Being easily distracted.
  • Having an increase in goal-directed activity socially, at work or sexually e.g. going out excessively, going on a trip spontaneously, building a new addition to a house with little rest or coming up with a new invention.
  • Being involved in risky behaviours e.g. compulsive shopping, hazardous driving, foolish business ventures or and sexual relations with multiple partners.

If you think you may meet the criteria for bipolar disorder, do not attempt to diagnose yourself. Get help for bipolar disorder by seeking the advice of a mental health professional. Make sure to consider bipolar disorder therapy for your bipolar disorder treatment.
